Zamfara Police Record Major Breakthroughs in Crime-Fighting Operations

The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded major successes in its renewed fight against crime, barely one week after the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, assumed duty.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Gusau, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the achievements were part of deliberate efforts to flush out criminals and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

According to him, the Command arrested Audu Maikano, described as a kingpin of a notorious armed bandits’ syndicate operating in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

DSP Abubakar disclosed that exhibits recovered from the suspect included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, ten rounds of live ammunition, fourteen locally made dane guns, a pistol, cutlasses, charms and several mobile phones.

He noted that the syndicate had been terrorising innocent citizens, particularly along feeder roads between Kaura Namoda and Kasuwar Daji.

In another operation, the police arrested two suspects, Abdullahi Idris and Ibrahim Harisu, with two bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The Command also raided a hideout in Gusau where it recovered 73 bottles of “Shutter”, 116 pieces of rubber solution, and several empty bottles of codeine.

DSP Abubakar said investigations are ongoing to arrest other accomplices linked to the illegal drug activities.
The PPRO further revealed that three suspects were arrested for reckless driving and public disturbance linked to the notorious “Yan Arlit” group.

He said items recovered from the suspects included nine motorcycles, marijuana, ice pipes and knives, adding that the arrests followed complaints from members of the public.

In other operations, two suspects, Wakala Ladan and Sharhabilu Wakala, were arrested for allegedly attacking victims with cutlasses and sticks.

The Command also recovered a stolen tricycle following the arrest of Salisu Usman and Abu Abubakar Ishaka.
Similarly, three suspects were arrested with 22 motorcycle keys, after they confessed to stealing motorcycles across Zamfara and Katsina States.

DSP Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, and the Zamfara State Government for their support.

He also commended residents for their cooperation and timely intelligence, assuring that the Command would continue to deploy all lawful measures to sustain peace and security in the state.
